Safety Essentials to take in a chemistry Laboratory - Part 1!

It has been a long time that we have written some of the best safety equipment we can stack up in the laboratories. Be it a histology laboratory or a chemical laboratory, there is the need to use all the safety equipment in the laboratory. The people in the lab should be quite familiar with the safety equipment that will be in use.

For starters, there are a few aprons that need to be used which will provide some care when there is a splash. Apart from that, you need to take care of the material of the apron because in case of fire they may be a hazard.

Hence, you can get hold of plastic aprons but they have their downsides too. Hence weigh all the pros and cons and then proceed further when you are doing any experiments around specimen grossing using formaldehyde etc. You should definitely put on an apron when you are doing things like making solutions, fresh unfixed tissue or body fluids.

There are certain face shields that you need to take too. And these are the ANSI approved. The gloves should be worn to protect your skin around your hands and this is the potential area to get exposed to the chemicals.

Thus, there should be proper protection for the hands. You should keep changing your gloves often because permeation can take place. Hence, latex gloves should be worn when you handle specimens of tissue. It is not essential to wear the gloves when you are working with paraffin but it is better when you have tissue samples that are going to cause harm and you quickly put on.

Hence, we have talked about only the gloves and the aprons. Tune in for the next part where we will tell you about the other safety essentials that are required in the laboratory. Nex part will be very interesting and will be updated soon.
