Let’s discuss about the types of Heat Transfer!

Let’s discuss about the types of Heat Transfer!

Since childhood, we all wanted to know how heat transfers every day in our life in everyday situations. Thus, here we are going to discuss about what heat transfer is and what are its different types.

Before diving into the topic, let us get to know about its definition. It is known to transfer via different methods. The process takes place through solid, liquids, gases and electromagnetic waves. Heat when transferring through solid material it is known as conduction. When it passes through liquids and gases then it is convection and when it transfers through electromagnetic waves, then it is known as radiation.

Heat transfers in these ways only and thus the thermal environment of a place is influnceced by the way the this branch of mechanical engineering. Lets discuss about its range.

Conduction: It is a phenomenon where the heat flux travels through the solid materials. There are different equipment in the heat transfer lab which uses this phenomenon. If you are wondering if you have ever seen or felt the phenomenon, then here are a few examples:

~ Touching a hot cup of tea.
~ Thermal influence in the instruments
~ Measuring the heat output from the reactors.

Convection: Heat travels through all kinds of matter in the world and thus, it also passes through liquids and gases. The chilly feeling you get when it is windy or when you are feeling cold in water which is of 25 degrees rather than in the atmosphere of 25 degrees is caused by convection.

Radiation: It happens when the heat transfers through waves both electric and magnetic. This phenomenon can again be felt when you are close to a heat source. Or else when you feel hot while standing close to the heater.

Thus, these are three types of heat transfers that happen in our daily life.
