Centrifugation- Importance and Principle

Centrifugation- Importance and Principle

Centrifugation is basically used to separate and divide the content of the mixtures that are in the size of solute. This said this can easily pass through the filter.

What is the principle of this phenomenon?

The basic principle of the centrifugation is to make the dense particles settle down. The lighter particles will be, the upper they are going to be. They stay at the top of the centrifugal device.

The equipment which makes this phenomenon work is the centrifuge machine. This can separate any two things- be it solids, liquids, gas or fluids. They do it by spinning the vessel at a very high speed and the force which makes them separate ousts the heavier material outside the vessel.

Importance of Centrifuge:

Mostly, this method is utilized in labs where you need to research about cells, cell organelles, proteins, viruses, and acids.

Centrifuges can also be used for academic purposes to teach the children the working and principles of this laboratory item. You have different types of centrifuges like benchtop, refrigerated benchtop, clinical benchtop and also the microcentrifuges.

Also, the whole process involves the principle of sedimentation where the centripetal force causes acceleration and this, in turn, makes the denser particles to separate in various directions at the bottom.
