Most used equipment in the Chemistry Lab: Tripod & Retort stand...
The whole laboratory is based on a few most frequently used equipment like tripod stand and retort stands.
But what are they?
A tripod stand is a three legged stand which is like a platform to support the weight of other chemical instruments at a certain height. Also, they provide stability to the horizontal forces and stand up against the downward forced about the axe.
A retort stand on the other hand is ring stand. This can be made of iron which is why it is also known as iron ring. This is basically a piece of scientific equipment that is attached to the other pieces of instrument. They can aid in titration experiments, holding of the test tubes and conical flasks. They are often known as a means of raising the equipment above the work station. They can be attached to other kinds of metal ware such as burette camps, prong clamps etc. to make the stable hold of glassware.
Now where do we use them?
~ Retort stands and tripod stands are used mainly in chemical laboratory. They can be used in any field laboratory as long as there is basic chemical glassware required.
~ They can help in a few experiments like distillation of organic chemical solvents. They are also used in filtering of solvents from the solute.
